THE EVOLUTION OF THE WISHBONE CHAIR: FROM TRADITIONAL TO MODERN DESIGN

The Wishbone Chair, also known as the CH24 chair, is one of many designs by Danish furniture designer Hans Wegner. It is considered to be a significant and notable piece by Wegner, who is considered to be a prominent designer of the 20th century.

Hans Wegner was born in 1914 in the southern part of Denmark. His father was a shoemaker and when Wegner was 20 years old, he moved to the city of Copenhagan to study art and craftsmanship at school before starting his career as an architect. In 1940, Wegner collaborated with Arne Jacobsen and Erik Moller to design furniture for the City Hall in Aarhus, which is the second largest city in Denmark and this served as the starting point for Wegner's furniture design career. Wishbone chair also known as CH24 is one of the most famous design of Wegner.

In 1944, Hans Wegner designed the Wishbone Chair, also known as the CH24 chair, which was inspired by the traditional Chinese Ming Dynasty furniture, specifically the Horseshoe Chair. This chair is considered to be one of Wegner's most prominent works among his many designs. The Wishbone Chair is made of wood, is lightweight, and has a curved backrest that resembles a bird's wing, giving it a unique and fresh look. The central part of the backrest is shaped like a Y, which helps to provide comfortable seating and conforms to the human body. The Wishbone chair is mostly used as a dining chair and has been used in many different settings.
